This is the first full length album released by White Zombie in 1988. It has 2 pressings with identical artwork. The first is on their indie label Silent Explosion (about 2000 were pressed). They then were signed by Caroline records; this pressing was more widely available on LP and cassette.

This album really broke White Zombie from their independent status. After joining Caroline Records, they proceeded to do a tour outside of the northeast US. They were not ready quite yet for an international tour, however. Melody Maker magazine actually ran a review of the Soul-Crusher record in which the reviewer showed enthusiasm for not only the music, but Rob's art & lyrics (see the REVIEWS page for the entire article). The first b-movie samples used by White Zombie are present on this album.

Caroline Records released promotional posters for this album once they signed White Zombie. Below is one of those posters:(thanks to kevin for the scan!)

As one may expect, the inner sleeve is covered with artwork, including an intricate representation of each band member with the words "CRUSH MY SOUL" included as well. (Guitarist Tom Guay has now changed his name to Tom Five). The vinyl has etched on it near the center "Hagar-speed crazy genius or hot-rod pervert" on side A and "I like 'em dumb" on side B. And who *doesn't* love the b-movie monsters & women on the vinyl itself??? It just wouldn't be a White Zombie record without weird little details!

I was just informed by Tom Five (yes, *that* Tom Five!) that "I like 'em dumb" is from a b-movie called "Catwomen on the Moon". Thanks TOM!!

Below is the tape case, also known as the "j-card". This is the only other format in which Soul-Crusher was available once White Zombie was signed to Caroline Records.
